Design Optimisation

 

Optimisation in a design context ensures that each component of a design is modeled so that it performs its specific function in the most efficient way as possible i.e. waste is reduced and energy is conserved as much as is possible.

 

There are various aspects that must be taken into account during the design optimisation process. One such technique is the use of finite element modeling to extract the stresses and strains that a component will undergoe during use.
This allows the designer to assign the correct materials and geometry to each component so as it performs in the most optimal way as possible. Each component also needs to be optimsed so that it is manufactured and assembled in the most efficient way possible. The entire system also needs to be designed as to maximise its efficiency i.e. the inputs are converted to desired outputs with a minimal amount of waste.
